built on a Friday! - 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix
By dave barry penb - September 14 - 2:00 amConsistent problems with this well beyond wear and tear. Other owners of Grand Prix have been very satisfied overall, not I. Heres a PARTIAL list: 2 batteries; 1 alternator; 1 condensor; 1 compressor; 2 o2 sensors; 2 fuel filters; 1 steering gear bushing; 1 fuel regulator; 2 heat selector resistors; 1 stereo; 3 wiper arms; 2 sets of spark plugs rated at 160 000 kms I have 114 000; the rocker panels have rusted been repaired and rusted through again; windshield is separating from the car and there is a leak in the tunk so water has left it mildewy and now it is behind the back seat. A lot for 3 years of owning. Expensive.

Fun to Drive WIDETRACK - 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix
By GP sedan owner - August 21 - 10:00 amI bought this car new. I had 10 problems which the dealer repaired under warranty over the first year. Oil pan leaking, power steering reservoir and hoses leaking, SRS light coming on and minor interior and trunk defects, where the delaership fixed in couple of attempts and charged GM over $1,700 (GM I hope you are listening, I dont think you made any money on my car). For the past seven years only had one other problem where both headlight lens fell off, which was also covered under warranty after lots of complaints. Now the car is 100% and runs great. This has been a very dependable car for me after the first year.

Waiting for it to bite the dust - 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Carrie - July 6 - 6:43 amI have had this car for about 4 years and have had several problems with it along with several breakdowns on the side of the road. My alternator has gone out twice, I have had a continuous oil leak that was supposed to be fixed, it squeaks when I drive it and no one can tell me what is wrong with it, there is always a problem with my alignment, and I have had problems with the electrical system - when I turn on the air conditioner my headlights will turn off. Not supposed to happen right? Also my gas gauge tells me the wrong amount of gas I actually have. I am trading in this car before it breaks down on me again. Thank god for triple A.

Old Faithfull - 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Timmer - May 27 - 10:00 amI used to own a 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE and was amazed at how reliable it was; under every bad weather and road condition you could feel safe and assured. I recently purchased a 1997 GT and have found no fault with it as well, other than a few minor scratches and dings. Its nice to know that qaulity didnt skip a generation. I cant believe how good of gas miliage I get with the 3800 series II V6, which I here is one the Top 6 Engines for qaulity in the world. I like this one and hope it will last me along time. Cheers Pontiac

Love my car - 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Stevep - May 13 - 10:00 amI have had many things replaced already, intake manifold, alternator, water pump, serpentine belt, headlights (leaking), but all of it was covered. I will be so sad when this car is gone, I can go fast, it looks great, and I still get about 24 mpg. At 78,000 miles it looks as good as my wifes 2002 GP GT rental! I told her that I prefer MY cars performance to the 2002s!

My Last American Car - 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix
By brett44 - March 8 - 2:00 amThis is a fun car to drive, but a nightmare to own. I purchaced this ride with 49,000 miles in Aug. 2001 and since replaced: water pump, raditor, driver and pass-rear power window motor, driver power seat motor, radio, pass side wheel bearing assy., blower motor, three fog lamps, two headlamps, alternator, all four rotars/brake pads, and finally a battery. Finally I got everything in working order and one hit in the rear from a F-150 later, its a total. Best thing thats happened to the car since I bought it. Next car will be a Nissan or Honda.

Great Midsize car - 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix
By mrut - September 1 - 1:53 pmI bought this car new and it has been fairly trouble free. I havent put plugs in it or done any kind of tuneup and it still runs great. Upgraded the tires when the first set wore out to 245-50-16 Bridgestones and the car really stuck. Only complaint would be that it didnt come in a stick.
